SUNY Resource Sharing is a service that allows you to borrow materials from other SUNY Libraries. SUNY Catalog is where you can search for books held by other SUNY Libraries, and then place a Resource Sharing request. It is useful for requesting titles we do not have or requesting books in our collection that are currently unavailable.
This FAQ includes instructions to search for books we do not have, or books in our collection that are currently unavailable. (Please note, SUNY Catalog/Resource Sharing is only used to request books. Requests for articles should be placed through Interlibrary Loan.)
1) If you are searching the STL catalog and a title is unavailable, you can place a Resource Sharing request. First, log in to your library account! Click here to learn more about your library account.
Once you are logged in, click on the title of the book you are interested in to view the catalog record. Under "Get It" there is a link to SUNY Resource Sharing. Click this link to open the request form.
Click the green icon at the bottom of the request form ("Send Request") and your request has been submitted! You will be notified via email when the item arrives at STL.
2) Search SUNY Catalog directly.
Search for a book on the library homepage. Once you enter your search terms, click "SUNY Catalog", the last option in the dropdown menu.
Under the result, click "Check for Available Services".
Under "Get It" you will see a banner with a link for "SUNY Resource Sharing." If you are not logged in to your library account, you will see a link to do so. (Instructions for accessing your library account are linked above.) Once you are logged in you will be returned to the record and the link will be visible.
Click "SUNY Resource Sharing" to open the request form. (A screenshot of the request form is included above.) Click the green icon at the bottom ("Send Request") and your request has been submitted! You will be notified via email when the item arrives at STL.
